Victoria

March 7th

It is a late start leaving Regina for our flight to Calgary and then on to Victoria.  The reason for the delay is that so many people have carry on luggage and it won’t fit in the plane and it takes so long to load the people because of it.  Ridiculous!!  Because of the late start we only had a short time to get our next flight in Calgary and the flight ended up changing gates which was waaaay over in another wing.  We ran and we actually just made it but only because most other flights are delayed because they are needing a de-icing.  We didn’t have carry on so we thought for sure there would be no luggage at the other end.  We were pleasantly surprised!  We rent a car and drive to Gerry and Joanne’s.

We enjoy a cocktail and a visit before digging into a delicious pasta meal.  And a dessert with lemon curd.  Sooo good.  Calvados was also consumed which was the whole reason why we came to visit!  and visit with Gerry and Joanne!

March 8th

We start the day with a hike up Mount Doug.  Beautiful walk through the woods at the bottom and then gradually working our way up to an incredible view.  You can see downtown Victoria and the ocean.  Spectacular!

The afternoon is spent looking at properties with a real estate person.  Most are needing work or are too small.  You don’t get much for the dollar compared to our market at home.  ☹

Our friends George and Bonnie pick us up to go out for supper at the Boom and Batton at the harbour.  Beautiful views.  We do a little drive around after dinner to Fisherman’s Wharf and then back to Geroge and Bonnie’s for a glass of wine.

Quick visit with Gerry and Joanne once we return.

March 9th

Up early and we head north to Qualicum Beach/Parksville area to visit relatives.  First stop is cousin Randy and Irene and then on to my aunt Edie’s for lunch.  Cousins Karen and Bev are also there.  We have a delicious seafood lunch and great visit.  On to cousin Mark’s at Nanaimo for another quick visit.

We are back in Victoria to Gerry and Joanne’s for supper with their friends and some of Gerry’s family.  Gerry made a spectacular cassoulet in a special dish that he has planning for a long time.  Great dinner party.  Sabre lessons included.

March 10th

We have a leisure morning and take off for Avril creek winery near Duncan.  We do a tasting which was enjoyable and then drive through the old part of Duncan and stop for a quick bite.  Then it is over to North Saanich and Sydney so we can check out the vibe as an alternative to Victoria real estate.  Back in Victoria, we pick up the various ingredients for supper of lamb, pave potatoes with madeleines for dessert.  Great way to spend our last night.

March 11th

Another leisure morning and then we drive to the airport and fly home.  For the last few months we have been hearing about China, and then Europe and their fight with the Coronavirus COVID-19 and it is getting clearer now that we are going to see life as we know it CHANGE.  Already on this trip, new acquaintances are elbow bumping.  There are no hand shakes and hugs.  Many people’s trips are having to be cancelled…..including our next trip.  😦
