We just wrapped up a three-day getaway to Revelstoke—equal parts wine, Cheezies, and questionable decisions about how far boomers should really be hiking. The main event was a 20 km trek on Mount Revelstoke to Eva Lake. The payoff? Absolutely stunning views, meadows full of wildflowers, and a trail that seemed to specialize in “just one more uphill.” By the end, one of us had legs quivering like Jell-O, but completed (and yes, we’ll be bragging about this for a while).
Of course, it wasn’t all about hiking. Our first night in town, we had dinner at a quirky Austrian-inspired Indian restaurant—yes, you read that right, and somehow it worked. The second night, we checked out the School House Restaurant, which served up a cozy atmosphere and another solid meal. Both spots proved that Revelstoke punches well above its weight in the food department.
We got smart on the following day, and traded hiking boots for gondola tickets, gliding up Mount Mackenzie instead. Now this felt civilized—no pain, just instant scenery. From the top, we soaked up incredible views of the Monashees, including Mount Begbie, Blanket Mountain, and the impressive Blanket Glacier. That last one holds some history: Neil actually heli-skied there back in the 80s.
Naturally, we had a celebratory burger at the summit lodge before heading back down to reality. On the drive home, we made a quick stop in Armstrong to visit Mom and Dad at the cemetery and, in classic fashion, picked up some fresh cheese curds for the road. Because honestly, no trip is complete without snacks.
