June 2017

June 4 Travel to Quebec City with our friends Joe and Shelley on Sunday June 4. We head out to wander and end up at Chez Jules for a variety of appetizers which included escargot and charcuterie plate. We had a great time and had a fun time with the waiter.

June 5
Shopped a little bit and we both bought shoes. We met up with Joe and Shelley. It is so cold and windy that we decided to go to Chateau Frontenac and go to the lounge. Nice and toasty warm with the rain pouring down outside. Cozy. And another charcuterie plate was in order with local ingredients. Did a little bit of shopping right in the Frontenac and came across a Salvador Dali exhibit.   We then did the tourist thing and took a carriage ride and tour with Rose, the horse and Dennis, the driver. For supper we went to Toast, in the lower part of old Quebec. The food wine and service was fabulous. We decide to take the funicular up the hill but Shelley wanted to take steps! Good on her! We are staying at the Marriott so stop at the lounge and have chips and dip. Also delicious.

June 6
Start the day at 10 and head to lower town. We poke around the art galleries. We do see some beautiful art. Some of it is very expensive. We have lunch at SSS which is excellent. There is such an appreciation for food and wine here. We check out the market and then head through the lower shopping area. We stop for sangria in sun and then we give in and buy some art and have it shipped home. Once we are close to hotel we stop at Il Teatro across from hotel for appetizers but after 3 bottles we decide to just stay for supper. That Joe and Shelley are a bad influence!

June 7
This is our last day with Joe and Shelley. We meet up to take the walking tour The tour is 2 hours. And really covered a lot of history and was very interesting. We did cover many places that we had already been but didn’t know the history that went with those particular buildings.
We head back to hotel to grab our bags and move to Delta to meet up with the Opimian Board and partners. We walk to the Garrison for supper. We get a bit of a tour of the building which is a very stuffy and male orientated place but steeped in history. Food was delicious with the Opimian wines. After we go in search of a bar and everywhere closing down? We end up back at the Marriott lounge for chips and dip again. We couldn’t convince Joe and Shelley to come down and join us.

June 8
Meet Danielle and we walk down Rene Leveque towards Cartier Avenue. The weather sunny and hot finally! Cartier is a cool restaurant and shop street with huge lampshades. We continue to walk to Modern Art museum. What a fantastic building. Some of the art was a bit “out there” Back to Cartier Ave to meet some of the women for lunch. After lunch we walk the Grand Allee where there is more restaurants and then we go up observation tower for 360 view of the city. Our evening supper was at Panache in old port, lower part. Greg knows the chef but we didn’t get to talk to him. Beautiful place, excellent food and good service with the Opimian wines. We had a little good bye presentation for Steve and Doug.

June 9
While Neil is in meetings, I walk to citadel and promenade all the way along the boardwalk to the Frontenac. Got my steps in again! I meet up with Neil for lunch on the Grande Allee at Louis Herbert. Again good food and wine. Pouring rain we so decide to stay put and have another glass of wine. Then it was back to hotel for meet and greet and annual meeting. There is a bit of a happy hour after the AGM. Enjoy wine after am. In the evening was the Hall of Fame dinner where Gwyneth and David from PEI were honoured. Late night.

June 10
In the meeting all day and then we had a tasting. The evening was a dinner at American Francophone museum that is in an old church. What a spectacular setting. It was a fun event. The night ended with beers on Grand Allee.

June 11
Meeting in morning but do get to wander about for one last lunch which ends up being excessive. This time it was Greg, Leah and Kevin who were the bad influence! Go and grab our bags and out to airport to fly home around sundown.
