August 22

We fly to Ottawa to stay with the Wilson’s for one night.  Jeez, that is twice in one month!  We have a great evening of food, wine and conversation.  Oh yeah, and we continue with our mission of teaching how to sabre a sparkling wine!

August 23

We all go for a walk in a forest near the Wilson’s with the dogs before packing up and heading for Prince Edward county.  It rains like crazy on the 401.  Unbelievable actually – we couldn’t see at all!  We stop at Gananoque for lunch and then continue on to Picton.  We are staying a Waring House just outside of Picton.  Dinner is out at Chef Michael Hoy’s which is fabulous.

August 24

While the Board has their meetings the rest of us head to the Sand Banks Provincial park.  Gorgeous sandy beach.  Dinner tonight is at the Soup Opera.  Fabulous!

August 25  Tour day

We start at Long Dog winery.  The owner is in the film editing business and now in the wine industry.  See their story.    They have also had royal visitors, Prince Charles and Camilla.  We get a tour and a tasting.  Delicious!

Next is Norman Hardie winery for lunch and a tasting.  This winery is a funky and young hang out.  I know, then why are we here?   Lots of fun.  Pizza lunch was great and then we have a tour and hear about the differences in climate from the Niagara region.  We then have a tasting.

Then off to Closson Chase Winery.  We start with a tasting and then walk of the property.

The church roof, a custom design by Helga Boelen, in style of the ‘Hospices de Beaune’ in Burgundy.  We toured the Hospices de Beaune in 2013 and hope to go back for the wine auction in 2019.

Last tour stop is Domaine Darius which is a vineyard that is very much “off the grid.”  And it is another tasting!  The hardship of it all…..

Dinner tonight is at the Drake Devonshire.  We continue with the sabre sparkling education although the knife we have is too small.  None of the chefs would lend a chopping knife, which is understandable.

August 26th

Start the day with poking around and shopping in Wellington.  Love how quaint this village is and love the architecture.  The it is back to the Drake for lunch.  Then we have a cooking class with the chef at Waring House.  We make crème caramel for tonight’s dinner.  Lots of fun.  Tonight’s supper is right at Waring House.  And…we continue to teach how to sabre a sparkling!  Delicious food and wine.

August 27th

Head back to Ottawa and fly home.  It was another fun time with friends, food and wine!
