January 9
Early morning flight to Calgary then direct flight to Huatulco. We land and you can instantly feel the heat. It is hot. There is a little wait to clear security. There were a few tense moments as the security dog sniffed Scott’s pack. WTH was he thinking? We get to the Cosmo residences. Very nice place. We take a little tour around. We had arranged for pantry stocking so fridge is stocked with lots of food and wine. We enjoy a relaxing supper of chicken and just enjoy the condo and balcony.
January 10
Quiet, low key day. Yoga and then head to pool. Meet lots of Canadians. Go to the restaurant for prime rib night and live music.
January 11
Yoga at 9 am and then we head into town. It is a short cab ride. Walk around the square and poke around the shops. We stop for a beer and then go get a few groceries at Super Che. We head back to condo to make supper and go to the pool.

January 12
Off to the gym and then Neil has some work calls. Then it is time for lunch and we make delicious Huevos Rancheros with everything – guacamole, chipotle cream, Pico de Gallo with fresh corn tortillas. The corn tortillas are the best ever! Today we decide to go to the beach and see if we can arrange a boat ride. While we are down there we test out the snorkel gear. It is so much harder to snorkel off shore rather than from a boat! The waves and the sand are a pain. We go for cocktails with Scott to the Oceans bar. The days seem short since the sun is down by 6 pm. I guess we need to get up with the sun at 6 am…NOT.
January 13
Gym and the pool. At lunch we meet the owner who is from Toronto. He tells us it is too late in the day for fresh fish in town so we go back to pool. Late afternoon we head into town for pizza at Le Crema which is so good we get one to go. Got a 22 year to feed, you know. Go for a night swim. So refreshing!
January 14
We had boat arranged but red flag out (rough waters) so couldn’t go. We check out a couple of the other pools and then we decide to go to Santa Cruz for and poke around. Of course, we stop at the Italian wine store. We head out for supper at at La Tavoli. Always good food here. Scott was charming the owner with his Italian so we end up getting complimentary Limoncello. This is a dangerous thing for Ellen.
January 15
Today is Boat day! We meet up with our guy, Ramirez. We snorkelled in several bays and go right up to St Augustin. We see lots a fish of all colours, sizes and shapes and with my new prescription goggles and vest it is fantastic. We head farther off shore and see turtles, grey whales (a mamma and her baby), and dolphins. There are big sea swells of approximately 15 to 20 feet. It is a little scary. It was a fun day though! We get back to the place and enjoy snacks and drinks on the balcony. Then we go to Oceans for supper. Later we go for a walk to catch the sunset from the Arrocito point.
January 16
Yoga first thing and then to the pool. Organize Scott and then put him in a cab. One of the local workers was watching us and he gestured a Wahoo! as the cab drove off. We had a good laugh! Now we go and enjoy a bottle of wine and snack and then off to Santa Cruz to the Italian store for Prosecco and antipasti ingredients. We enjoy our charcuterie on the balcony. We hear from Scott once he gets to Calgary and clears customs. He was having beer and duck confit before flight home.
January 17
We decide to head into town for breakfast and go to West Park café for breakfast. It is good but we think our Huevos Rancheros is better. Then we walk around looking for the silver shop that we were in a couple of years ago. We find it and of course, the silver is beautiful and we spend money 🙂 We wander over to the fish and buy snapper for supper. The fish is caught that morning and you choose and then it gets fileted right in front of you. Same Mamma in the shop from 2016 fileting the fish. We head back to condo and make a pitcher of cocktails for the pool. The fish is delicious for supper. We take a dip in the pool before bed. So refreshing on a hot humid night.
January 18
Another beautiful, relaxing day. The weather is just so consistent. Yoga, lunch, pool, and supper of baked potatoes with Mexican themed toppings. We go to Oceans for happy hour and dessert. Another night swim at the peninsula pool.
January 19
Up early and walk to Huatulco lookout sign on the highway. There are so many hills on the way and with the heat and humidity, it just sucks out your energy. We poke around some of the side streets on the way back to see some of the properties. Lots of unfinished development. Another pitcher made and it is off to the pool. Late afternoon snack on balcony to enjoy the view. Once it gets dark we see the International Space station go over. So cool!
January 20 Last day 😦
Leisure morning, pack up stuff and head to pool to relax, read and visit. Quick lunch and finish packing. Check out and head to airport. The flight is painful since Neil is suffering the effects of heat stroke. It is a long journey home. When will he learn to put on a hat?
